Project Case Studies

Infographic

Challenge

Complex instructional concepts can overwhelm learners when presented in dense text formats. The challenge was to design a concise, visually engaging infographic that communicated essential information clearly while adhering to quality assurance and accessibility standards.

Process

I selected key content and translated it into a one page infographic. I applied visual design principles such as contrast, alignment, repetition, and proximity to improve readability and learner focus. After creating the infographic, I evaluated it using relevant sections of my QA checklist to ensure accessibility, visual consistency, and instructional clarity. This iterative review process allowed me to refine layout, text density, and visual hierarchy.

Results

The final infographic effectively communicated complex information in a learner-friendly format and met quality and accessibility expectations. This artifact demonstrates my ability to combine instructional design thinking with visual communication skills while applying formal QA processes to instructional media.

Gamified Assessment

Challenge

Elementary learners often struggle to stay engaged during reading fluency practice, especially when activities feel repetitive or skill-drill focused. The challenge was to design a short, interactive learning activity that increased motivation while remaining tightly aligned to reading fluency objectives and learner needs.

Process

I began by using a graphic organizer to clarify the target learning objective and learner profile. I designed a gamified activity that could be completed in under ten minutes and incorporated multiple gamification elements, including clear goals, immediate feedback, and progress indicators. The activity was intentionally structured to support diverse learners through simple navigation, age-appropriate visuals, and minimal cognitive load. Throughout development, I focused on alignment between the activity, learning objectives, and assessment opportunities, ensuring the game mechanics supported learning rather than distracting from it.

Results

The final activity successfully balanced engagement and instructional purpose. It demonstrated how gamification can enhance learner motivation while maintaining instructional integrity. This artifact showcases my ability to design learner-centered, interactive experiences that are developmentally appropriate, time-efficient, and instructionally aligned.

Authentic Assessment Infographic

Challenge

Students often struggle to understand expectations for creative, technology-based assessments without clear visual guidance. The challenge was to design a concise instructional resource that explained how to create a podcast while supporting an authentic assessment within my Reading Fluency course.

Process

In my role as instructional designer, I created a step-by-step podcast infographic that visually outlined the planning, recording, and submission process for a fluency-focused podcast assessment. The infographic was intentionally aligned with the authentic assessment students complete, which requires them to apply fluency vocabulary and strategies in their own words. I applied visual design principles to ensure clarity and age-appropriate layout, and I used my QA checklist to verify accessibility, consistency, and instructional alignment. The resource was branded to match the course and designed to reduce confusion and support independent student work.

Results

The completed infographic provided students with clear, accessible guidance for completing the podcast assessment successfully. It improved learner confidence by clarifying expectations and reinforced fluency concepts through both visual and instructional alignment. This artifact demonstrates my ability to design instructional media that directly supports authentic assessment and integrates seamlessly into a larger course experience.
